Price Tags is asking every MLA in Metro Vancouver questions about the referendum.
Stephanie Cadieux, Liberal MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale:
.
How will you advise your constituents to vote on the Transportation & Transit Referendum?
I will be voting ‘yes’. I believe expanded regional transportation is required, and that a sales-based tax, as is proposed, is the most equitable funding option available.
.
What is the priority in the Mayors package (if any) for your riding?
The proposed addition of Light Rail Transit and increased HandyDart service will be two direct benefits to people in Surrey-Cloverdale, however, the overall plan, improving transit and decreasing congestion across the lower mainland will have positive impacts – especially for those constituents who frequently travel or commute out of Surrey to other parts of the lower mainland.
.
How do you plan to participate in the referendum campaign?
I will encourage people I speak with to vote ‘yes’.
.
Any other comments?
I think the Mayors’ Council’s plan to expand Metro Vancouver’s transportation options is reasonable. Transit expansion is vital to our economic development and it will become even more important as the region’s population grows.
