This comes directly from Metro Vancouver’s monthly update:
Our latest Map of the Month demonstrates the important relationship between planning for growth and investing in transit.
.
.
Metro Vancouver’s regional growth strategy, Metro Vancouver 2040: Shaping our Future, represents the collective vision for how our region will accommodate the one million people and over 500,000 new jobs that are expected in the region in the next 25 years.
Metro 2040 directs the majority of this growth to a network of Urban Centres, and a growing number of Frequent Transit Development Areas located in close proximity to frequent transit. A sustainable transportation system, as envisioned in the Mayors’ Council Transportation and Transit Plan, will in turn support and enhance a livable region by connecting communities, and increasing access to jobs, amenities, and services.
.
Given the consequences of the referendum, will the map still be relevant? There are three possible outcomes:
(1) Yes means the plan proceeds – our collective vision for accommodating growth based on the legacy of decisions made in the previous half century.
(2) No means that plan is irrelevant and a New Vision is articulated to accommodate growth (or it’s Motordom by default).
(3) Even in the event of No, we don’t give up on the existing vision and the plan on that map. There is an historic renewal, a determination to retain the legacy of past generations, and a fight to fund and implement the regional growth strategy.
.
That’s the meaning of the last sentence in this video:
