Referendum: MLA Response – Mable Elmore

Price Tags is asking every MLA in Metro Vancouver questions about the referendum.

Mable Elmore, NDP MLA for Vancouver-Kensington:

.

How will you advise your constituents to vote on the Transportation & Transit Referendum?

I will be encouraging folks in Vancouver Kensington to vote YES to the Transportation and Transit referendum to improve public transit, reduce congestion and fight climate change.

What is the priority in the Mayors package (if any) for your riding?

The priority is the need for more buses to improve service on bus routes. The bus system has suffered from under funding for many years and is running at full capacity. The upgrades and expansion of the Expo and Millennium lines will also benefit and encourage more folks to access public transit.

How do you plan to participate in the referendum campaign?

I will work with community organizations, businesses and individuals to encourage people to vote yes to the referendum. I will issue communications, support local actions and also talk to folks.

.

Any other comments?

The provincial government has abandoned their responsibility to provide adequate funding for public transit .  The provincial government must return democratic control of transit to the locally elected Mayors and councilors.
