Ohrn Image: Scoff – 2

Just west of Trafalgar on Point Grey Road.

This company could have parked their truck legally about 30 feet east, or in the driveway to photo right.

  1. Unfortunately it’s a problem in many areas with bicycle paths, a problem not always deemed that important by bylaw officers or police. On the other hand, try parking your bike in the middle of the street and see what happens!

  2. In fact, I e-mailed VPD and City of Vancouver bike hotline with this photo. According to the reply, the VPD contacted this company to discuss the infraction. The CoV also urged me to use their 311 service to contact parking enforcement staff, and I understand from a friend that this can be quite effective.

    1. Your photo definitely helps, Ken. I don’t carry a cell phone or camera with me on rides, which I should. The worst offenders seem to be contractors who park along the curb in front of where they’re working even though there is space on the property. You’ll find a lot of it along Williams Street in Richmond and similar areas where there is a bike path alongside the curb in both directions and no onstreet parking. Kudos to the VPD for taking it seriously.

  3. I urge you to contact 311 immediately and report the parking infraction; it is extremely dangerous for cyclists and other when vehicles are illegally parked as vision is severely hampered and passing is a hazard. The City comes out usually within 15 minutes when you report a parking infraction. Take a photo as well if you can in the event that proof is needed later. The City requires the license plate number of the vehicle and the exact location (street and block number). The colour and make of the vehicle are helpful but not essential.
