    1. The city needs a system where one takes a picture incl license plate number and the car gets ticketed or towed immediately.
Does that exist somewhere, anywhere on this car choked planet ?

  1. That particular little stretch of bike path gets far more than its fair share of parked vehicles. This is the second or third time that Pricetags has shown a photo of a vehicle parked there and I’ve personally had to avoid three other trucks while cycling past in the last few weeks.
Trying to see things from a different perspective I do have to ask myself whether there really is any viable alternative for that particular work site and if so how far away it is. How far would you want to carry heavy tools or stacks of new drywall? Would people in the park appreciate bits of old plaster, lumber, loose nails, etc. accidentally falling in the grass while workers haul it to a waiting truck?
Had the city built additional parking on the off chance that someone would need to park a truck outside one of those homes we’d all be screaming about the horrible waste of land devoted to unnecessary parking spots.

  2. I have a series of photos of a Belfor truck (ER 3162) totally blocking the bike track on Dunsmuir opposite the St Regis on September 9th this year. I watched as a day camp of 7 kids on bikes headed east had to ride into oncoming traffic to get round it. I also photographed the three guys meander back to the truck with their burgers and drinks, then drive down the bike lane waving at me.
I called Belfor and asked to speak to someone in charge and was put through to the voice mail of this guy – Richard Holfeld, Branch Manager. Left a message. Got no reply.

  3. Hello,

    1. Ken, did you send these guys any more detail and did you ever receive a reply?
I sent them two pictures immediately and told them I had 5 more – never heard a thing. Perhaps Belfor are only interested in adding more followers to their twitter feed?

  4. I would like to add to this discussion that cars are regularly parking in the NO PARKING areas on the North Side of Point Grey Road between Bayswater and Alma. These cars are in the bike route for cyclists heading West on Point Grey Road, and they both a nuisance and a safety hazard. Almost daily, and I have the pictures with license plates to prove it, cars, trucks, service vehicles, limos, etc. are parked in front of 2999 Point Grey Road on both the North Side and South Side, completely usurping all the resident parking and illegally parking in NO PARKING zones. This home, like most of the homes on the North Side of Point Grey Road, has a large (4-6 car) gated driveway and courtyard where these vehicles should be parked, but the owner keeps the driveway vacant. I have notified the City and had the cars removed numerous time, but the problem is on-going. Any suggestions for further action?

    1. Yes, I regularly encounter parked cars and trucks here too. I also report them and will remind the drivers, if they are nearby, that they’re parking in a bike lane and making it unsafe for everyone.
The latter action just gets me sworn and shouted at. Though they’re trying that with the wrong old lady if they think I find it intimidating, I never found any of those interactions useful in terms of getting the drivers to understand anything, so don’t recommend it.
