Before we move on to Brent Toderian’s observations on the New Point Grey Road, here is one from Ken Ohrn:
.
We’re all used to the MAMIL (Middle Aged Man In Lycra), and the new Point Grey Road gets its share of these. But unlike any other bike route that I travel on, the new PGR attracts lots of families, with children in trailers or on their own two-wheelers.
My (totally groundless) speculation is that the new PGR is safe, flat, moderate length and has a terrific family destination at the western end — namely Jericho and the other beaches and parks. Perfect for getting out with the kids for a fun ride. Whatever the reasons, it’s wonderful to see.
.

Was on it last week and saw 10 cyclists under the age of 12 headed for Kits Pool and 4 very young kids on scooters. Kids had to stop every so often to let the parents (on foot) catch up.
I went to a party on Saturday in West Point Grey and rode there on Point Grey Road. Not a surprise, but it was full of cyclists. But what was a greater surprise is how many people rode their bikes to this party. The end of the evening meant fishing out bike lights and helmets. We all felt very modern. The couple that drove from the Olympic Village felt somewhat bashful.

Where’s a pic? Love these stories, but it’s more fun with an image. And if the NPR is going to be a settled issue by the civic election, it will be partly because the reality of it has been so well documented.

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but I usually compensate. Then the trick is getting me to shut up.
It’s sounds like a party in East Van.
