The History and Future of Hogan’s Alley
.
To honour Black History Month, please join a conversation about Hogan’s Alley, Vancouver’s only African-Canadian community, which was destroyed by the construction of the Georgia and Dunsmuir Viaducts in the early 1970s— a cultural calamity equal in impact (though not scope) to the Chinese Exclusion Act. Last year, Hogan’s Alley was remembered with a historic gathering and plaque. Come hear and see this important piece of Vancouver’s history, and learn if there might be another opportunity to remind Canadians that history can repeat itself.
To frame the conversation are Adam Rudder, whose Masters thesis at U. Vic was on Hogan’s Alley; and other presenters to be announced. Then it will be your turn to question, observe, opine. Feel free to bring your lunch.
