The West End Heritage Tour
Wednesday, August 14th, 2013; 6-8 pm:
Tickets: $15; $10 Heritage Vancouver Members
West End planner Holly Solvdi and heritage advocate Anthony Norfolk are giving a walking tour of West End heritage.
Since it was first surveyed and branded as part of the City of New Liverpool in the latter half of the 19th century, Vancouver’s West End has evolved. It contains a mixture of distinctive building styles representing successive eras of development. One of the emerging directions from the City’s community planning process supports the retention of surviving heritage resources.
The route will include a number of identifiable heritage groupings or districts. Some buildings are on the City’s Heritage Register, but few are protected. Many are not even on the Register, and at even greater risk. A number of issues concerning retention of significant buildings of all eras will be raised for discussion.
The walk will begin at 6pm at the southwest corner of Nelson Park (Comox/Bute), and finish about two hours later at Roedde House in Barclay Heritage Square.
