Why Thurlow and Robson? Why Scott and 72nd?
When the Canucks were winning games that (almost) got them to the Stanley Cup back in the 90s, when the Koreans were winning a succession of games in the World Cup, Vancouverites (including the ESL kids) assembled sponstaneously at Thurlow and Robson.
Why here? Cater-corner Starbucks? Instructions from a DJ jock? Some collective unconscious that this was the place everyone else would go? Same thing, apparently, in Surrey, when thousands showed up at 72nd Avenue and Scott Road after the recent play-off games:

Again, why here? Lots of free parking? Or some sense that, to really celebrate, we need to block traffic?

As I recall, comparable events in Europe are attracted to great pedestrianized spaceswhere they exist. In the absence of one, I’m not surprised they ended up at Thurlow/Robson, which is a credibly a center of commercial Vancouver. I won’t even begin to speculate on 72nd and Scott Rd.
