Welcome to The Mixing Middle.
Existing monocultural single-family neighbourhoods need to densify with Missing Middle housing. But that on its own isn’t enough. Those neighbourhoods also need a variety of activities to thrive. This competition asks entrants to add new mixed-use functionality to skillfully enhance densifying areas.

Participants will explore lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many people found themselves working from home while caring for the young and the old.
