Vancouver Heritage Foundation – Vancouver Special Tour – Apr 22

The Vancouver Special has become a retro design icon of Vancouver’s architectural heritage. Once unpopular for their prolific reproduction across the city, their retention is now seen as a celebration of Vancouver’s unique character which also offers a sustainable alternative to demolition and building new.
See inside five stylish innovations of the iconic Vancouver Special.
The self-guided tour also showcases the adaptability of the Special with several homes reconfigured to suit multi-generational living. With parents and grown children living under one roof, these homes offer creative design solutions for how two seperate suites in the same house can feel independent while keeping families close.
This year the tour is also especially bike-friendly. All of the homes are located on the east side of the city and in relative close proximity, making it easy to navigate. We have partnered with a local bike shop to provide air, oil and mechanical support for cyclists, offering a more sustainable way to enjoy the day.

Saturday, April 22

  1. Well, you’ll be supporting the Heritage Foundation which is run by a lot very committed volunteers. They also put on the Heritage Homes Tour on the first Sunday in June — well worth it! As is New Westminster’s, which occurs on the last Sunday in May.
