A bewildering mix of local and state agencies, councils, government bodies, local planning instruments and environmental controls mean determined developers can drive a wide-shovelled bulldozer through preservation laws.

“Profit-driven developers and Asian buyers in search of ‘trophy’ homes are responsible for the rapid disappearance of these dwellings,” says Almeida.

  1. It sounds like the problem is with local preservation laws that are so porous or non-existent any “profit driven developer” or ‘trophy-house-crazed Asian’ can just waltz in and build what they please.

    ‘Neighbours concerned about new development should hire a town planner’, advises Town Planner who normally works for developers. As a fellow Planner, I couldn’t agree more.
