Welcome to Dan Ross as guest editor for this week.
.
I’m a native of Buffalo, resident of the North Shore, and veteran of Jeanette Sadik-Khan’s NYC Department of Transportation, where I worked on everything except Times Square. I’m also one of the former Aucklanders so popular on this blog, having spent five years in New Zealand as a transportation planner and engineer. Yes, a person can be both.
The older I get, the more I like baseball and the Rolling Stones. Hated both as a kid. But I’ve always been interested in the idea of the social contract, especially the part where people interpret their own perceived best interests in opposition to someone else’s. So that’s where some of my focus will be this week – wanting things while wanting others to not want them as well. Like the mixed grill at The Tomahawk, for instance.
Many of these posts will draw from my own experience in NYC, Auckland, Edmonton and elsewhere; in addition to some guest contributors with their own perspectives.
I’m new to Vancouver and intend on sticking around, so I will ask questions. Hopefully we can keep the discussion going, learn a few things, and have some fun. Looking forward to it.”

Welcome Dan, looking forward to hearing about your experiences.
Hey Dan, that platter will feed three bikers and two farmers. You sharing by any chance?
