While San Francisco is a pedestrian paradise, suburbs like San Mateo struggle with Motordom and treating walking like an illegal activity. El Camino Real was an historic streetcar corridor replaced by six lanes of traffic, three-foot sidewalks with embedded obstacles and out-of-reach pedestrian-crossing buttons.
