  1. This is an important part of the argument for good transit, especially in Vancouver where housing costs are so high. The $500 – $1000 average savings per capita means of course that those who can actually make do without a car, or can cut their car use significantly, will save much more – and a better transit system is the key to making that an option for more people. One could argue that transit improvement is one of the most significant policy initiatives available to address overall ‘affordability’ in the Greater Vancouver area.
