Commensurate with the times, there don’t appear to be many road hazards, either – look at the dog lying there. Times change.
Note the pediment on the corner building where the Dominion Building has a similar doorway pediment.
That’s also a very nice building at Hamilton & Hastings (where SFU is building a residence?).
..and look at those hydro poles!!!
The ones on the right are telephone poles. Each wire is tied onto a glass insulator. The 120 wires service a total of 60 telephones – maybe 8 times as many if they used party lines in those days.
oops – there are 132 wires in total servicing 64 customers.
Not to mention cattle !!! (maybe heading to the dinner plate).
Oxen on a yoke, me thinks.
A picture is worth many By-laws. Right hand drive rules seem to apply, even to steers, when did that change to the other side of the road? The bicycle seems to be going against the traffic flow, maybe that is why the dog appears wary, or maybe the dog likes chasing cyclists and he is just waiting an opportunity. No dog leash laws I suppose. No bike helmet laws either. No separated bikeways. No cars, wow no cars. No stop signs, no signal lights, no crosswalks, no tolls at the intersection, no trolls in sight. No parking meters, no street trees, no benches, no street names. No signage by-law, no ban on smoking advertising (Smoke Seal of North Carolina-Plug Cut Smoking Tobacco). Ah, for the good old days. Well not quite, no ladies in sight. Merry Christmas everybody.
