That political conflict, NATO’s backing of Kyiv against Russia, and the large-scale humanitarian crisis created by the “anti-terrorist” war are shaking the political foundations of Europe. What are the origins of this conflict? A ceasefire is now in place but what does the future hold?
Roger Annis is a Vancouver-based writer and antiwar activist who has written extensively on Ukraine. He attended an antiwar conference in Yalta, Crimea on July 6, 7 that included antiwar activists from Ukraine, Russia, Europe and North America.

Tuesday, September 30: Performing Home: Enacting A New Choreography of Belonging, A Lecture by Carrie MacLeod

Is there an art to reinventing home in the upheaval of displacement? This evening will offer a feast of poetic narratives on how communities in transition are creating new spaces of belonging – against all odds.
In considering the multiple meanings of home in this contemporary global culture, we will ask who is making room for whom when frictions from forced migration play out in Vancouver neighbourhoods and across international borders.

Thursday, October 2: City Conversations – Young Politicians: Meet Vancouver’s New Generation of Leaders

City Conversations has invited some running in Vancouver, to tell us about their backgrounds, why they decided to enter politics, what they’ve learned about being a candidate, about the political game, about who they represent, and what they want to accomplish.
Joining us will be Coree Tull, Vision Vancouver candidate for Park Board. We’ve invited other youthful candidates from across the political spectrum. Feel free to bring your lunch.

September 4-27: Lossless – SFU MFA Graduating Exhibition

Time: Various times, see gallery hours
Place: Audain Gallery, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, 149 West Hastings St.
Cost: Free
Lossless is an exhibition featuring graduating projects by the 2014 MFA candidates at Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts. Video, sculpture, performance and installation projects by this year’s graduates share a number of related concerns, while formulating distinct frameworks for individual investigation.
