Where does housing growth occur in Metro Vancouver?

Last week, I posted a piece from the Los Angeles blog, DTLA Rising that noted a fifth of all housing growth in the City of Los Angeles is happening in their downtown.
DTLA Blogger Brigham Yen wanted to know what if there were similar stats for Vancouver.  Fortuitously running into Metro planner Heather McNell, I had a chance to ask.  And before I knew it, the answer popped up in my mail.
Here are some of the numbers reported by Metro:

How much of the dwelling unit growth was / is occurring within the Metro Core?
We tend to calculate mid year to mid year, but from what we can see, somewhere between 10 to 13 percent of housing completions are occurring in the Metro Core (compared to 20 percent in LA).

Between the adoption of Metro 2040 and year end 2013, we’re seeing about 36 percent of dwelling unit growth occurring in our network of 26 Urban Centres;  Metro 2040 targets 40 percent.

And just for clarity, here are the boundaries for the Metro Core.

FTDAs are based on the Frequent Transit Network (both present and future). They are designated by municipalities, TransLink and Metro Vancouver collectively. And, they are designated areas within 800m of existing or potential Rapid Transit stations and 400m of Frequent Bus routes. 
Metro 2040 also targets an additional 27% of our growth to these locations, thereby striving to structure more than two-thirds of anticipated growth to our network or Centres and FTDAs – good transit-oriented locations that serve the development of vibrant, healthy and complete communities.

    1. Hey Tim. The map I sent Gordon shows geographies for those Urban Centres with confirmed boundaries which were part of accepted Regional Context Statements by year-end 2013. The other Urban Centres (and there are 26 in total) including Surrey Metro Centre are shown as ‘dots’ as their boundaries (from a regional growth strategy perspective) were not yet confirmed at that time. Surrey’s RCS was accepted by the GVRD Board in September 2014, so you can expect to see the geographies for Surrey Metro Centre and the other Urban Centres around the region in our next Shaping our Future Annual Report.   1. Gordon,
    as mentioned, here is link to the 4 storey medium density project I’m leading in Coquitlam, which is located on the Frequent Transit Network not far from the Lougheed Town Center.
    As our neighbourhood has lots of elderly, our project has high numbers of accessible/adpatable units, recognizing the changing needs of an aging society.
