Spent a delightful morning (does the weather get any better?) as leader for a Heritage Vancouver tour of my favourite neighbourhood (in the world!).
Here’s the group:

And here’s a chance in the comments to ask questions, or, better yet, include their observations, what surprised them, what they disagreed with, what they want to know more about …

We saw Gordon speak at a viewing of an old CBC news piece about the West End (at the Hollywood) and when I saw his name on this, we had to go. That was just fantastic. Gordon, I could hear you speak about this city I love for hours. I was particularly interested in the inner workings of how Vancouver city planning works and as a specific example was really surprised what the heritage designation in Vancouver really means.
I should also add,… hearing someone with such depth on the topic of transit and traffic address ignorance about bikepaths and their value: worth 10 times the price of admission!
The question is, how long will the West End remain in its current form? Seniors are feeling the pressure from increased rents and there has been an influx of Foreign students, Mexican, Brazilian, Korean, and then there is this:

I very much enjoyed this walk /talk. Love the West End and was very encouraged to see young people interested in history of the city as well. Makes one feel optimistic about the future. Gordon’s knowledge of the area & interesting way of telling the West End story is second to none. Thanks for a very informative morning.
