Vancouver’s leading example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture will be open on the 2014 Heritage House Tour.
On Sunday, June 1, from 10am – 5 pm, tourgoers will have one day to get inside 11 historic Vancouver homes including the impressive mansion built for George C. Reifel.
.
Tour one of Vancouver’s most well-known heritage homes.
Built for brewery baron George C. Reifel in 1932, Casa Mia has long been heralded as a superb example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and an ode to the status and wealth of the Reifel family. Together the Reifel family owned three breweries in BC in the early 1900s, remaining prosperous through prohibition with a brewery in Japan. George C. Reifel also had influence over Vancouver’s music scene as owner of the Commodore Ballroom, as well as the Vogue and Studio Theatres.
Designed by Ross Anthony Lort, also known for the Barber Residence and Maxine’s Beauty School, Casa Mia is a standout in his body of work. With formal reception rooms which feature intricate plaster work, a grand master suite with a special closet just for ball gowns, sun room with original spanish tiles, and a completely circular bathroom with views of the Fraser River, this grand estate holds some truly unique features.
