Michael Alexander reports in:
8:32 pm yesterday on a beautiful spring Sunday on the seawall cycle track, at the daily counter by Science World. They are about to be numbers 5304, 5305 and 5306.
.
That’s about the volume of a collector street – a high-volume residential street, like Nelson Street in the West End. But I couldn’t find comparative data, either for vehicles or bicycles on the city’s web site (bike counts for the cycle tracks stop in Mar 2012, according to one page.) Nor can I find the numbers for this counter at Science World on the Seaside route.
Any help out there?

I’ve cycled over that thing a few times when I hasn’t registered my bike. So I have a feeling that it’s under-reporting…
If you don’t hit the sensors near the middle of each lane, it often doesn’t count you. And a good percentage of cyclists bike through the parking lot instead of using the lane (if they’re connecting to Quebec or Terminal). So yes, that’s a minimum number of cyclists passing by Science World.
5600 is really high for this early in the year. I only saw it go over 6000 a few times last summer. I’m hoping for a few days over 8000 this summer.
What’s that yellow line in the middle for?
The same thing the yellow line in the middle of every other road is for. 🙂
No Science World stats, but has other bike lane stats: http://vancouver.ca/streets-transportation/separated-bicycle-lanes.aspx
