Variations on Motordom: Culture war division

The American culture war gets played out in car ads.

From the right, Cadillac:

 .

From the left, Ford:

.

Both sides, however, seem equally driven.

  1. Re: The Moon “We left a car up there with the keys in it. Why? We’re the only ones goin’ back.”

I just watched “Gravity”. (Warning: spoilers ahead) It’s about the International Space Station. Yup, that’s not a NASA monopoly. When things so wrong, there no hope of rescue from the Space Shuttle, because that program has been cancelled. The Russians already took the last working Soyuz back but not to worry, there’s a Chinese space station in the same orbit a short distance away. That’s got the same technology we trained on in Russia.

    Who is deluded?

    1. I had the same question, but google says that this is a Ford parody of a GM ad. That said, I actually find both ads effective. The GM ad might not reflect my values, but it is very honest about what values it does appeal to, and there is something admirable about people who work for what they want.

  2. Ugh – playing below the Cadillac ad is using one of my very favorite songs – I think it’s even the great rolling intro of the live version I like best. Song is Terry Callier’s You’re Gonna Miss Your Candy Man. Makes me sad.
