Good anecdotes. The presentation omits the fact that Vancouver’s commitment to the auto went so far as to make the current Granville Bridge the widest in the Commonwealth -since succeeded by a number of others. Of course, a potential benefit of this over-building of car infrastructure means that Vancouver can now – “painlessly” (read “affordably”) implement plans to re-use 2 lanes for cyclists and pedestrians, build an elevator to Granville Island and a modern streetcar serving it and rebuild the north approach for other than automobiles – fully integrated into proposals for a new development to replace the off- and on-ramps from Pacific Street, etc.

Jeffrey – John was focussing on the south end this time around. I’m pretty sure he could/should have a full presentation about the north end if the blasted “normalization” of the Loops there ever gets implemented. You know, the plan we both worked on in the early 2000s.
