Sustainable Vancouver: Evening Lecture at Hycroft

VHF’s Evening Lecture series starts off with a look at Vancouver’s sustainable future. Delivered by Dr. Tom Hutton, Professor at the UBC School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP), this lecture looks at the feasibility of Vancouver truly becoming sustainable. Is it rhetoric or could it be a reality?

Added Date! Walking Tour of Chinatown + Dim Sum with John Atkin

The chance to have dim sum with John Atkin proved to be a very popular idea as the January 25th Dim Sum walk is sold out! But fear not! We have added a second date on March 30th.   Sign up now as space is filling up quickly!

Take a walk through one of the city’s oldest districts and explore a fascinating history framed by unique architecture. We’ll dispel a few myths, explore a few nooks and crannies and look at the future of this important neighbourhood. To warm up we’ll finish off the morning at a local restaurant for a special menu of dim sum.

Heritage 101 has a new format!

Previously offered as a single full day course, Heritage 101 is now offered over two evenings. You must attend both evenings to get credit for the course. Heritage 101 is the foundation course for VHF’s Certificate in Heritage Conservation.

Heritage 101 introduces the foundations of heritage conservation practice, including essential tools and standards. It also talks about how heritage is regulated at the City of Vancouver Heritage Department and across Canada. Instructors will discuss why conservation is important economically, culturally and as a green approach to sustainable communities. This course is taught by Senior COV Heritage Planner Marco D’Agostini, Heritage Consultant Don Luxton, and Heritage Educator Judy Oberlander.

Wednesdays February 26 and March 5

The HiVE: Brown Bag 2014

Utilizing a rehabilitated space in the heritage building at 128 West Hastings, HiVE is a cooperative work share space that offers small businesses and not-for-profits access to desk space, meeting rooms, business equipment and wi-fi. Join VHF at the first Brown Bag Lunch and Learn of 2014 with Eesmyal Santos-Brault, founding member of HiVE and sustainability designer. Eesmyal will speak about the innovative concept that is HiVE and how it has been successfully implemented in this heritage space.
