The Vancouver Special House Tour is coming up on September 21st. Their very simple floor plan, paired with maximized square footage, means that each Vancouver Special can be tailored to meet the needs of its new owner without major structural changes. Vancouver Special House Tour – Modern Sustainable living in a 1982 Special

Originally built in 1982, this Vancouver Special has been given a sustainable, modern renovation with some really innovative ideas. Focusing on the principles of passive heating and cooling (temperature management without the use of mechanical systems), the design utilizes “small cuts” in the layout to ensure efficient use of space and maximized air flow.

Hear from the architectural team at Dialog about how they incorporated the new cafe into one of Vancouver’s most iconic art deco buildings, then tour the Marine lobby to learn about all of its remarkable details and stories. JJ Bean Owner/Operator John Neate will talk about their distinctive brews, lead a coffee tasting, and you’ll even get a bag of JJ Bean coffee to take home. The Marine Building, 355 Burrard St

An Evening Conversation about Vancouver’s Big Band Music Scene

Dal Richards has had a busy summer! With performances at both the PNE and North Vancouver’s Concerts in the Square series, Dal is taking a break from the stage to open VHF’s Evening Lecture series on a more relaxed note. Reporter John Mackie and Dal will sit in conversation and chat about the history of big band music in Vancouver. Dal may even throw in a few stories from his own remarkable career.

Movies at the Hollywood – Start Oct 1

VHF is excited to be back at the Hollywood this fall! Not only is the Hollywood about to be polished up with new paint in its original paint colours, via VHF’s True Colours grant, but starting in October film nights are back! From October through November,  join VHF for four evenings of architecture and design themed films in this classic venue.VHF and the Church at the Hollywood are once again partnering to make these film nights by donation, with a concession that is also by donation. There were some pretty busy nights last winter, so make sure to come early!
