Lions Gate Bridge
Built in 1938, financed by the Guinness brewing family, the Lions Gate Bridge connects the City of Vancouver with our North Shore neighbours. This remarkable bridge is one of the longest built at the time and was heralded for technical innovations in cable use and construction. The bridge survived potential demolition in the 1990s after debate was sparked over its heritage value and ability to meet the needs of the public, and today its graceful peaks stands as a landmark for our city setting Vancouver’s harbour apart.

We will be celebrating this great piece of architectural history with a plaque presentation on the overpass before Prospect Point in Stanley Park on Wednesday, July 17th at 2:30pm. When you find the matching miniature lions you’ll know you’re in the right place.
Don Luxton, heritage consultant, advocate and author will speak on the heritage and architecture of the bridge and we will also be joined by members of the Guinness family and the British Properties Board of Directors.
