Planner I (Sustainability Specialist)
Main Purpose & Function
The City Sustainability Group has a temporary (13 month) opening for a Sustainability Specialist. The Specialist is responsible for managing projects on behalf of, and providing support and advice to, Managers and Directors throughout the City responsible for achieving Greenest City or Green Operations targets.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
In addition to managing interdepartmental projects to develop new plans, regulations, and programs that have been identified as key for the City successfully meeting its sustainability goals, the Specialist will also be responsible for on-going support to internal client groups working on sustainability initiatives. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining and expanding the City’s Greenest City social media presence.
These roles typically involve undertaking best practice research and contextual analysis, design and implementation of internal and external stakeholder engagement processes, identifying and helping to secure external resources, the development of business cases and project implementation processes, managing budgets and working groups to ensure project milestones are successfully achieved, making and supporting recommendations to management, developing and making presentations to public and professional audiences, tracking and reporting project progress, and managing the Greenest City Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
A university degree in Planning, Engineering, Business, or Environmental Science plus at least 2 years of professional planning and/or project management experience. The successful candidate must have experience with managing social media, professional experience with a range of environmental sustainability issues, strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to catalyze and manage change within an organization, and the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal clients and external partners.
Additional or useful for this position are: formal project management training or experience; background in local food systems; demonstrated personal commitment to sustainability; familiarity with designing and applying social marketing approaches; experience using social media to advance an organisation’s goals.
