Walk with David: A Tour of Metrotown

Neighbourhood Walking Tour: Metrotown and Central Park Neighbourhood with David Pereira

Sunday, September 23rd

Tour one of Burnaby’s oldest neighbourhoods with urbanist David Pereira.  The tour will feature stories about the development of the Metrotown Town Centre area, from its earliest days up to the modern era.   With a keen interest in urban issues, planning, and transportation, David has developed a tour that brings past and present together, showing how communities are always changing and responding to the times.

2:00 – 3:00 pm: West Metrotown

This is a 2.6 km route through West Metrotown, featuring a history of Kingsway and Central Park among other points of interest.

3:30 – 5:00 pm: East Metrotown

This is a 3.4 km route through East Metrotown, featuring a history of the mall and Digney speedway among other points of interest.

Meet at the front entrance to the Bob Prittie Library at 6100 Willingdon Avenue (Kingsborough & McKay).  The tours are free of charge, but there is a maximum of 30 participants, so arrive early to secure a spot.

For background, check out this post taken from David’s research.
