Nordstrom’s design reframes Robson Square

Miss 604, not surprisingly, has some of the first images of the new Nordstrom’s once it guts and refaces the old Sears (Eaton’s) block.

Go here for images and the story.

Check out the last one – the most interesting new facade facing the Art Gallery across Howe.  Took me a moment to figure it out.

  1. Aha-do we have a new public space for special events we can cobble from a “closed to traffic” block of Hornby that seamlessly connects this glass facade to the art gallery public space? And of course any design is better than what is there currently on the old Sears building site, lets hope there is some attention paid to facade articulation and scale to make the Hornby facade of Nordstroms appealing, not the dead dog zone it currently is.

  2. The rendering strongly reminds me of the ex-Central Library on Burrard and Robson.

Also, the street facing this is Howe, not Hornby, and I suspect the City would not close it as readily as they have closed Robson, given its major role for traffic and transit when the latter is diverted from Granville.
