The Interrupted Seawall – A Continuing Saga

Yes, the presence of ‘temporary’ float-plane terminal on Coal Harbour has dragged on for years.  You can read about the backstory under “Interrupted Seawall” in the Categories on the right.  Or clicking here.

But it may be coming to an end.

.

City Hall tells me that permission for Harbour Air to remain on the City site is only valid until Sept 20, and it is currently reviewing their decommissioning plan.

But the issues have not been resolved between Harbour Air and the other parties at this time, and a few weeks ago the company was reported to have applied for another extension.  The blowback from notified residents was immediate, and reportedly the application was withdrawn.

It would be hard to believe that the Vision Vancouver council would buckle on this, but the terminal is still there after all these years.

Will it be after September 20?

  1. There was a RFP issued just a week ago for the building of the missing link of the seawall. Reading over it though doesn’t hint if the terminal itself would be moved, just the link completed. So it’s still anyone’s guess what happens to the terminal next month.

  2. And meanwhile for the past twenty years, the citizens of Vancouver have been waiting for the City, Concord Pacific and the Province to get their act together and put in Creekside Park and finish off the seawall there in NE False Creek. So the Harbour Air interruption of the seawall with the City’s lack of effort is not an isolated issue.

  3. I am wondering if you know what’s happening with another interrupted seawall – that along the east side of False Creek near Science World where Telus has seemingly taken hostage of the thoroughfare for 2 years now. That whole connection, inc the quasi-bike lane on Quebec, is a disaster and progress is at a crawl.
