From Peter Ladner:
Governments alone can’t solve regional transportation crisis: ‘Let’s move,’ say business, labour, community leaders
Toronto, July 13, 2012 – Twenty-seven leaders have stepped forward as the first wave of Regional Transportation Champions today, joining the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance to give people a say on what a better transportation system means to them, and what they’re willing to do to make it better. The group’s reach is broad, collectively representing over 2 million employees, students, customers, and members across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA)

Hi Gordon:
Great blog – I visit your site most days.
On a not-entirely-unrelated topic, I thought you might like to know that Robert Schwandl of UrbanRail.net – a great resource on rail transit systems all over the world – passed through Vancouver this week and posted a review of SkyTrain, Canada Line and the West Coast Express on his website at: http://schwandl.blogspot.ca/2012_07_01_archive.html
While he does find a fair bit to like about the Expo Line and the West Coast Express, his attitude is that a lot should be expected of Vancouver when it claims to be one of the world’s most liveable cities. As such, he takes a decidedly critical view of our rapid transit system, and doesn’t hold back on what he perceives as shortcomings.
His biggest criticisms are of the penny-wise / pound-foolish cost cutting measures implemented on the Canada Line, and what he considers to be poor information / signage / wayfinding for the TransLink system as a whole.
It’s a fairly extensive review, and an interesting outside perspective given that Mr, Schwandl has likely ridden most if not all of the rail transit systems in Europe, and appears to be well on his way to visiting every rail system in the world.
