WRT the stautes – it was exactly that type of “modification” to a sculpture that led to a big lawsuit regarding Michael Snow’s Canada Geese sculpture at Toronto Eaton Centre. Cadillac Fairview tied ribbons to the necks of the geese for Christmas decorations.
The modification without the artist’s permission was a violation of his “moral rights” to the integrity of the work (typically, nowadays, waivers of moral rights are obtained when copyright in works (or works themselves) are transferred).
