Name That Building

Bonus point for its location – before it was demolished.

It’s the second Hotel Vancouver, located at the 100-per-cent corner back in 1916 when it opened at Georgia and Granville.

One of the conditions for the construction of the third Hotel Van, two blocks west, was the demolition of this pile, and its marvellous roof garden – not to mention those amazing gargoyles, truly inspired by the Canadian West, that I had not seen before.

Thanks to Past Tense, and to the Vancouver Achives, which is doing a good job at getting its collection digitized and more accessible.
