A spectacular example of what can be done with modern lighting technology:

And it even has fireworks at the end to remind you of how they used to do it in the old days.  (And as Tom Durning notes, probably cheaper than the rather tired fireworks displays we do here every year.  Maybe time for an upgrade.)

  1. There was a brilliant lighting display done during the Summer Live festival in Stanley Park, where they illuminated the trees surrounding the stage with constantly changing shapes. It was magnificent to watch from the hill, with the crowd of people in the middle, giant inflatable balls glowing different colours and this strange wobbling of light in the trees surrounding the scene.

  2. I liked the light show at Summer Live as well, and this light show looks cool too.

I also like fireworks, though. I wouldn’t say they are “rather tired”. I was down by the Olympic torch for the Canada Day fireworks and everyone seemed to really enjoy the fireworks there.
