REAL CAUSES

Ex-BCTV reporter and now cranky blogger, Harvey Oberfeld goes in search of the real causes of the riot.

Cyclists.

No kidding.

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS IN T.O.

Bad news: the City is removing the Jarvis Street bike lane.   Cyclists protest:

Good news: they’ve approved some cycle tracks around Toronto.

In the same 28-9 vote, they agreed to physically separate 14 kilometres of bike lanes on downtown streets — two of them north-south, two east-west — at an unknown cost.

More good news: the City is eyeing a much-need makeover of Yonge Street a la Granville.

  1. Wow, John Pucher ripped off in a big way. Or maybe he helped write it?

I always find it interesting the conundrum that TransLink faces. Increase transit use = lose money from gas tax. Increase cycling = lose potential transit riders.

All things considered they do a pretty good job!

  2. Gordon…I would have expected better from you. Your statement that I have suggested even remotely one of the “causes” of the riot was cyclists is a TOTAL LIE, personally denigrating and libellous. I seek an apology.
What I wrote is that the riots are just another symptom of the declining civility and respect for one another by more and more people in Vancouver over the past 20 years…manifested in recent years by the the rudeness of MOTORISTS, PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS to one another.
Nothing like you wrote. I await an apology.
    Harv Oberfeld
