Vancouver in 2136

Another 125 years from now, what will Vancouver be like?   According to Director of Planning Brent Toderian and others: denser and greener.

  1. The Kingsway image from 2136 looked very much like an image of a streetcar-oriented city from the turn of the century (well last century) so I guess it is back to the future? A friend is a technical architect for a small Spanish city. Her work focuses on ensuring that buildings are built to last, I think if Vancouver planners were serious about planning for the future there would be much more emphasis on building and designing for longevity in everything from Canada Line stations to pedestal towers to water mains.

  2. I always get a kick out of watching predictions from several decades ago about how life would be like now. I bet our great-grandkids will like this one, too!

    I like Toderian’s attitude that the best way to predict what will happen is to design it. I like the tone of the piece being about the necessity to plan for what’s going to happen outside our control.
