PROOF

Ken Ohrn sends along a link to his “Ridin’ Downtown” gallery – capturing zoomers going by on the Hornby and Dunsmuir cycle tracks.  I thought the “Proof” labelling on his images had a nice double meaning:  No matter  how heated the debate on the merits or not of the cycle track, there’s no proof better than people actually using them.

OBNOXIOUSNESS ON WHEELS

“Portlandia” – the series spoofing the self-righteously urban culture of Portland – may the first TV series seen more on YouTube than the tube.   Here’s another clip –   a hyper bicycle rights activist zips around the city …

DO THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF CYCLING OUTWEIGH THE RISKS?

 … ask researchers in The Netherlands.  Can you guess the answer?

Conclusions: On average, the estimated health benefits of cycling were substantially larger than the risks relative to car driving for individuals shifting their mode of transport.

  1. That clip from Portlandia is pretty funny.

    I watched an episode the other day and was pretty disappointed… I guess it’s hard to fill a whole sitcom making fun of a specific subculture, but the clips are good.
