Acceptance

On January 27th, the kids of two schools – David Lloyd George Elementary and Churchill Secondary – mounted a flash mob at Oakridge Shopping Centre in the suburban heart of the city – with a message:

In honour of International Anti-Bullying Day, two schools came together to create a message of Acceptance and challenge others to use social media as a positive tool. Spread the word!

For those elsewhere in the world, there may be a much more evident message when you watch the video.   It helps to know that Vancouver was founded as a British colonial entrepot (look at the names of our schools!).  And for much of our history, racism was the accepted norm, particularly targeted towards ‘orientals.’  What you see in this video tells you a lot about how fast the demographics of cities can change in this global age, but more importantly, how fast people can change too.

In acceptance.
