Free Webinar America Walks-Storytelling for Active Transportation Advocates

If you have not met Mexico City’s Peatonito here is your chance. I have attached a YouTube video below so  you can hear the story of this famous masked crusader who is the champion of pedestrians in Mexico, and has been featured on CNN. He is one of the participants in Storytelling for Active Transportation Advocates.

How can we reach more people and convince them of the benefits of inclusive and accessible walkable communities? We have incredible data on how they improve health, the climate, the economy, and our quality of life – but data alone often doesn’t carry the day.

We’ve put together a panel of creative and experienced communicators to share their ideas about how to cut through the clutter and move people to action. Tom Flood, bringing car advertising experience to street safety, Marian Huhman to present research results on language that works, and Jorge Cañez (Peatónito) creative earned media expert and filmmaker.

Date: March 17th, 2021

Time:  11am – 12pm PST

You can register at this link.

Moderated by our Executive Director, Mike McGinn – advocate, campaigner, and former elected official. Join us for presentations and conversation about tapping into the emotional core of successful advocacy.

Jorge A. Cáñez Fernández (Peatonito)
Born and raised in the chaotic capital city of Mexico this masked “luchador” (wrestler) is a pedestrian activist superhero. Peatónito used to be a normal citizen with a normal job until one day he decided to fight for the rights of the walkers. This idea came to this young man when he went to the “lucha libre” arena, the Mexicans’ favorite spectacle, where the magic of the traditional wrestling matches happens. The next day he brought the fight from the arena to the streets.

Marian Huhman is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
Before coming to UIUC, DR. Huhman was a researcher and evaluator of health campaigns at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where she led the outcome evaluation of VERB. It’s what you do!, a national social marketing initiative to increase physical activity among tweens. At UIUC, Dr. Huhman taught and conducted research and evaluation of social marketing and media campaigns.

Tom Flood worked in advertising for many years and has most recently been developing creative, content and strategy through Rovélo Creative.
