  1. As someone who owns a home in a RS-1 neighborhood, the opposition to low-rise development in RS-1 is perplexing and toxic.

I can’t imagine people saying that Kits, Mount Pleasant or Grandview are slums. They are the most vibrant neighborhoods in the city, and it’s because of the higher density and diversity. Yet every time there is a development application for a modest 4 story building nearby, on an already busy street, people are out at the meeting yelling about it being the downfall of the neighborhood.

Resistance to change is the downfall, not low-rise developments. It’s a slow downfall caused by many townhall meetings and angry letters to council. It’s already happened. Other neighborhoods have become the places to be.
