This has been a spectacular year for dogwood trees, and here’s a Cornus Florida Rubra or pink dogwood with a fantastic show on Larch Street in Kerrisdale.  And just north of this is a mystery sidewalk~there are actually two sidewalks in this well manicured block of street trees, one at the private property line, and one at the street. But why?

Take a look further north where the street is wider. Somehow this section of street escaped the widening fate, providing  a more pleasant experience for sidewalk users with a wider boulevard, and of course, the optional choice of two sidewalks.

  1. Wouldn’t it be nice to see those panels of grass (a.k.a. green desert) converted to flowers and plants that support butterflies, bees and other pollinators? There is no need for mowed lawn in those spaces.
