PT reader Gerry Stafford sends in this:

The Yacht Club’s motivations are simple: their docks are old, they need to upgrade them, and it appears they would rather appropriate public space to raise funds than pass along the true cost of moorage to yacht owners!
Stafford’s comments:
Granting permission to Royal Vancouver Yacht Club to construct their existing boat sheds in scenic Vancouver’s Coal Harbour was a travesty at the time. … The very thought of these eyesores covering more of the waterway horrifies me.
And for what? To allow a few of the extremely wealthy store their salt-water toys out of the rain. Sorry, but that does not wash with me. If I was to approve the expansion to their moorage at all, it would be solely on condition that all of their boat sheds be removed and recycled. …
RVYCs existing boat sheds show them to be poor custodians of the beauty of and universal access to the park. I urge you to grant them no further boons at public expense either fiscal or experiential.
