You would think that there is enough talent around to create ads of generic dank towns when you are an American political party and you are looking for a really really drab awful street scene to show what will happen if you vote for the other political party. But no, someone decided to use a five year old photo from the town of Jaywick Great Britain as the illustrative impact if Democrats ruled in the United States.
Jaywick is located on the North Sea about 90 kilometers from London. The 1920’s holiday housing in the photo was never intended to be permanent housing, but became that following the severe housing shortages at the end of World War Two. The local community resisted demolition of the worst of the housing, which is also impacted by flooding from the local salt marshes. The area also has very high unemployment, so there is not a lot of renovation funding floating around either.
People living in Jaywick took offence to the American political party using the above image which they point out is old and noted that all the streets have been repaved and the houses gussied up. The American political party unfortunately responded that it was not really commenting on what the street looked like as much as commenting on bad governance, which of course got the citizens of Jaywick even more incensed.
As one resident fumed “This is a place where there’s a community spirit that’s tighter and stronger than anything I knew of in London. We had a fire last week here in an old person’s home and people were pulling together and rallying around to put it out.” As for the US campaign advert – which was accompanied by the slogan “Help President Trump keep America on track and thriving” – she was equally lacerating.“Doesn’t he have enough trailer parks in America that he can go and use?”
Price Tags also thinks that the Lyon Estates suburb Marty McFly lived in for the “Back to the Future” movie might have been what that political party could have used. We’ve offered it here, as well as a YouTube video below from a Jaywick citizen outlining why Jaywick is a pretty fine place to live, and should not be used as a place of doom.
