Vancouver’s New Community Park

Real estate developer Concord Pacific is turning a big chunk of well-located, but mostly unused, Vancouver asphalt into a community park.

The work is in mid-construction, and is located in northeast False Creek — immediately north of Creekside Park and Science World, directly along the seawall.

According to the company’s web site and the pictured site signage:

Concord Pacific is the largest private provider of planned parks, seawalls and public art in Vancouver.

While the City together with Concord Pacific plan and develop this new neighbourhood, Concord is erecting a pop-up neighbourhood community park open by day. Much like Concord’s operation of this temporary seawall, this community park will be entirely funded by Concord Pacific.

The interim neighbourhood community park is planned to be open at the end of Summer 2018. More information to come soon!

I am puzzled as to how exactly Concord plans to handle this “… open by day” thing. The surrounding area is certainly not open by day only.

But whatever the final park becomes, it’s certain to be better than that wasted space.
