While wandering around on Google maps, the online traveller can find all kinds of intriguing things – like the sheer amount of overhead wiring that seems to characterize Thai cities. Much more than places I’ve seen in, say, Central ad South America. Here’s an example in the beach town of Pattaya.

We often complain about excessive regulation here in the “west”; this is the result of “anything goes” – any company can string up wires without really much of a permit or permission. You better believe half of that mess is inactive, “belonging” to companies which have gone out of business, subscribers who no longer use it, etc.
Municipal broadband, where the municipality is responsible for the ‘last mile’ cabling would help significantly!
