Oct 14 By-Election — NPA Candidates

Hector Bremner has brushed off Glen Chernen’s clumsy attack to win the NPA Council nomination.
I think of him as an energy lobbyist (Steelhead LNG) and PR guy with strong ties to the BC Liberal Party. Currently, he’s VP Public affairs with the Pace Group, a media relations firm in Vancouver.
So at this point, most City Council candidates are identified (a few more may file, who knows.  I do miss Mr. Peanut).  As to name recognition, the Greens’ Pete Fry wins that hands-down, having come in at #19 for a Council seat in the 2014 general civic election.
Now let the speculation begin:  Green growth or NPA resurgence?  How is all this projected to affect the 2018 general civic election?

Bremner

At the NPA’s September 6 nomination meeting, Bremmer blamed the city’s ruling Vision Vancouver party for the housing crisis, and specifically the mayor, Gregor Robertson. He told the crowd their policies have encouraged speculation that driven up prices.
“I look forward to a campaign where we can bring this important issue forward for our city,” Bremmer said . . .
Before working in Coleman’s office, Bremmer spent a year and a half as executive assistant to the provincial minister of international trade.
Since early 2015, he has worked in public relations with the Vancouver-based Pace Group. In 2013, he ran unsuccessfully as the B.C. Liberal Party candidate for New Westminster.

School Board:  thanks to Scott Brown in PostMedia’s Vancouver Sun.

The NPA also announced Fraser Ballantyne, Lisa Dominato, Robert McDowell, Jorge Julian Prieto and Christopher Richardson as its slate of candidate for seats on the currently vacant Vancouver school board.
Last October, then education minister Mike Bernier fired all nine elected Vancouver School Board trustees for failing to pass a balanced budget and appointed former Delta School District superintendent Dianne Turner as the official trustee.
Ballantyne and Richardson, both former school board chairs, were among the nine trustees who were axed.
