Job Jar — Exec Director, Jack Webster Foundation

Deadline is Sept 12, bucks issues t.b.d.
Job description: Executive Director, Jack Webster Foundation.

Who is Jack Webster?
Jack Webster was one of Canada’s best-known journalists. He spent 54 years in the news media, 40 of them in Canada. Webster left his mark on BC journalism with his hard-hitting reporting style, first at the Vancouver Sun, then on open-line radio at CJOR and CKNW, and finally at BCTV (now Global BC). Webster died in 1999 at the age of 81 and left British Columbia a legacy of excellence in journalism.
Organization and Mission
Founded by community members in 1986 to honour Jack Webster on his retirement from active journalism, the Jack Webster Foundation recognizes and rewards excellence in BC journalism through its annual awards program and dinner, as well as ancillary educational opportunities.
The Foundation is a registered charity. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees consisting of a mix of individuals with journalism backgrounds and those with wide community experience. Operations are funded by sponsorships and ticket sales.
At a time of great disruption in the news industry, a ‘Webster’ statue remains BC’s preeminent journalism award and a reminder how crucial a strong media is for the health of our democracy. Now More than Ever.
Executive Director
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will have overall operational responsibility for the Jack Webster Foundation’s mission, including its annual awards dinner and programs.
This contractor position is a unique opportunity for the right person to work with an outstanding board of trustees to manage unique journalism programs during challenging and evolving times for BC news media people and organizations.
