  1. Gifu – it’s not a city you hear much about. How is it related to the party boat business depicted above? Well, Gifu promotes not just slow food, but also slow industry, slow education, and slow tourism. It’s a contemplative outlook.
    Why mention Gifu now? July 9 is when throughout the area and in sister cities, including Thunder Bay, peace bells are rung. Gifu was firebombed by the Americans with much loss of life and property. The ringing of bells is poignant.
    When will the machinations of warriors end – not in our lifetime. According to Wikipedia, Japanese high school girls were employed to construct paper balloons in an attempt to carry bombs in the jet stream to their enemy. How desperate and whacked is that.
