Useful Roofs and Secret Gardens

In some parts of the dense downtown core, the city can appear greener from above than below – now that, since the 1990s, rooftops and decks have been landscaped as a matter of course.

But there’s a difference between the early decks, like this one at Paramount Place (900 Burrard) completed in 2005, that provides passive space and green relief in a simple geometric design …

… and this one across the street that was developed for the childcare facility in the YMCA/Patina development (955 Burrard) completed in 2011.

They are the secret gardens of Vancouver.
