Young people have always been a critical demographic for robust, vibrant and diverse cities. They fuel the local economy as they enter the workforce and play a key role in infusing the cultural and social fabric of the city with energy. As they grow older, they found innovative enterprises and their children revitalize our neighbourhoods and populate our schools.
But as Vancouver grows increasingly unaffordable, many worry that millennials are set to leave the city. What can be done to increase livability and retain our youth and what will happen if we don’t take action?
These are the questions that’ll be addressed during a discussion with Vancity VP Community Investment William Azaroff, award-winning writer and columnist Jessica Barrett and Vancouver City Councillor Andrea Reimer.
